Never say the Scots don’t have a sense of fun and humour. Visit the town of Moffat in Dumfriesshire in August and you can watch the Sheep Races. Knitted doll jockeys are attached to the backs of costumed ewes that gallop and leap down the High Street. And as if that wasn’t fun enough, you can back the winner at the betting booths with the proceeds going to the town. The sheep races celebrate Moffat’s sheep farming and centuries old woollen industry.
